This term, the children will be following on with their World War knowledge and focus on World War 2, following on from World War 1 in Term 1. Given that this is the centenary of the end of the 1st WW and with Remembrance Day falling on the 11th November, this is a poignant topic which the children have enjoyed earning about to date. Not only will the Primary 7 children conduct the Remembrance Day assembly, they will also apply their knowledge of WW2 within their Literacy work.
Between October and December, P7GP will be continuing their learning on World War 1 and World War 2. As part of this they will be leading the remembrance assembly on Friday 9 November where we will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1. We will round off our topic with a class trip to the War Museum in Wilkieston.
Our investigations into the World Wars will permeate into many areas of the curriculum throughout the term as we learn about Judaism in RME, rationing in maths and start our new novel “The Silver Sword” in literacy. This novel, by Ian Serraillier, follows the journey made by 4 Polish children as they search for the safety of family during World War 2.
